Thank you for visiting my blog!
My name is Kat and I am a fitness and health food fanatic with a love for urban farming. I created this blog as a place to share workouts, recipes, animal husbandry tips, attempts at a more eco-friendly existence, and details of my everyday life. I love nutrition and fitness, but it wasn't always that way. Growing up I was a very picky eater and subsisted mostly on Kraft mac & cheese and McDonald's chicken nuggets. I was not a natural athlete and exercise was something I avoided at all costs. Not surprisingly, my food choices and inactivity led me to gain a significant amount of weight in my teens. The rapid weight gain combined with general teenage angst sent me on a downward spiral of depression. The worse I felt, the more I ate. The more I ate, the worse I felt. When I was 17, things took a turn for the better when I moved in with an incredibly supportive group of women. I learned I wasn't the only one in the house struggling with the vicious cycle of depression and binge eating, so we all made the decision to get healthy together. We started walking six miles every day, and I found the more I exercised, the less I wanted to indulge in my unhealthy behaviors. I slowly started making more mindful food choices, and the positive changes kept on comin'. My skin cleared up, I was losing weight, I had more energy, and I felt AMAZING. I was more confident than ever before. I started running, joined a gym, and started taking exercise classes. Since then, I never looked back. Now, I am a runner and CrossFit fanatic. I eat a clean, healthy diet not to lose weight or restrict myself, but because I love the way good food makes me feel. |
I formerly worked at a small farm in a suburb in the San Francisco Bay Area that serves as an outdoor education program for youth. I managed the volunteer programs and cared for goats, sheep, horses, alpaca, rabbits, chickens, ducks, cats, and one pesky peacock named Kevin. This blog shares details of life on the farm and urban farming endeavors at my own home.
